Media Kit – Notes on Wertheim’s Research

• Vaudeville Wars took ten years to research. This book was inspired by Wertheim's earlier book on Will Rogers's career as a vaudeville performer.

• Wertheim visited many libraries from San Francisco to Texas and Iowa and from Boston and New York to London.

• He was the first researcher to see the Joseph P. Kennedy papers on this subject at the JFK Library in Boston.

• Wertheim needed to read page by page every major theatrical trade paper (Variety, Billboard, etc.) from about 1890 to 1930 on microfilm.

• He also used hard-to-find books in the UCLA library -- librarians there also ordered books, articles, and microfilm from other libraries on inter-library loan.
